Lancashire County Council called on Warden following a devastating arson attack which caused major damage to the school.
Our staff were in attendance the morning after the incident to secure the site and make an initial assessment of the remaining buildings. Our team got onsite within 24 hours giving us a two-month window to deliver a fully workable school environment for the staff and pupils.
We worked in collaboration with Lancashire County Council and specialist contractors to deliver the project to the desired level of quality. Phase one ran from July to September 2021 and phase two February to September 2022.
During phase, teachers and pupils were temporarily relocated to Edge Hill University while the most fire-damaged area of the school was demolished, and temporary classrooms were put in place on the school field. During phase two all the damaged walls were rebuilt and attached to the original infrastructure of the building, structural steel and timber was installed for the installation of a new roof and all electrical services were replaced and connected to the original services. The temporary classrooms were finally removed, and the school field was restored to its original state.
With a limited timeframe to finish the first phase of the school, it was challenging to get the correct resources and subcontractors to site, and our teams had to work efficiently and collaboratively to deliver the education spaces on budget and in time for the new September term.
We required a large crane on the playground and large articulated vehicles to deliver and remove the site cabins. To allow for this we had to partially close the road, diverting the traffic where necessary, but we kept disruption to a minimum for all our neighbours. Our approved supply chain delivered to our exact requirements despite the incredibly short notice and our personnel and subcontractors worked hard to make the school buildings and surrounding areas safe for the pupils, teachers, and other building users.
What our client said
“We could not have asked for better support from the teams at Lancashire County Council and Warden. Nothing has been too much trouble and they have collaborated with us every step of the way to ensure they created spaces exactly right for the children. They included school staff in their designs and planning for phase two and it was a pleasure to move into the newly completed part of the building.”
