Warden was reappointed to the Stepping Hill Hospital Measured Term Contract for responsive repairs and planned maintenance, for a third, four-year term, following a highly competitive tendering process.
This has seen Warden working on a diverse range of projects in this busy, live, occupied, acute, NHS hospital for over 10 years. We have worked throughout the hospital estate including the maternity and children’s wards as well as the emergency department.
One of the planned MTC projects involved the refurbishment of an existing area of the hospital, which was converted into additional ward space for patient beds and nurse base stations within the emergency department.
The works consisted of the complete refurbishment of the existing staff communal areas to make additional space for the emergency department. This entailed the demolition of partitioned walls to create open plan spaces and then the groundworks; plastering; joinery; plumbing; mechanical and electrical installation; as well as the installation of suspended ceilings; flooring, painting, and decorating.
It was essential to undertake daily, weekly, and monthly meetings with the estates department and ward managers to ensure the work was planned in accordance with the hospital, which was a live, critical care and fully operational environment. Warden set up a separate entrance to the emergency department, set up temporary entrance alterations to the staff WCs and arranged deliveries and materials in accordance with the hospital.
This project was phased, whereby each space was completed and fully operational before moving onto the next phase of the project, to ensure no downtime and minimise disruption.
